"Otherwise known to a UK audience as cape gooseberries, these golden berries take on a brown/golden colour when dried. The flavour has an enjoyable sourness that is mouthwatering, and the pips offer some bite and crunch. This snack would be appreciated by someone who does not like the sweetness of dried fruit, such as raisins.
These berries have an appearance somewhere between plump sultana and a dried mushroom. There's a deep fruity aroma of rich sultanas, along with an intense fruity flavour and an attractive, slightly chewy texture. They have a good bite and a high, yet balanced, acidity. We think they would be good to snack alone or as an ingredient, eg in granola."
Organic Incan Berries
Incan or Golden berries are the fruit of a plant which grows naturally in the Amazon region of South America. Once regarded as “The Lost fruit of the Incas”, it is a small fruit with a glossy orange-yellow skin, surrounded by papery protective leaves, that has long been part of local diets thanks to its delicious flavour and nutritious qualities.
Processing
Sevenhills Wholefoods Incan Berries are sourced from Peru, which is their supposed origin. The berries are harvested and only the finest berries make it through to the cleaning stage. The berries are then dehydrated at less than 45 degrees celsius before being packed.
