Guarana is a climbing plant which grows naturally in the tropical Amazon region of South America. It has been intrinsic to local diet and culture for centuries and was first noted in European accounts by 16th Century Spanish explorers. Nowadays Guarana is used both as a flavour for soda drinks and is used in healthy food, thanks to its role as an energy booster.
Processing
Organic Guarana is grown in Brazil. Once locally harvested by farmers using traditional methods, the seeds are selected, cleaned and dried. They are then carefully milled into a fine powder. Processing temperatures remain below 45°C, hence we market this product as raw.
